Episode 11: Zilpha from Mormon Expression Interviews Sybil about the Daughters of Mormonism Podcast

Doorway Upon Doorway

Here's a great special edition! While I was staying in Utah, I had the opportunity to visit Zilpha from Mormon Expression at her recording studio.

During our afternoon together, Zilpha interviewed me about my new project: The Daughters of Mormonism podcast. At the time, I had just posted Sara's interview, so there were only four episodes up.

It is exciting to see how fast this podcast has grown in the short time since that interview. During this episode, we discuss various women's issues in Mormonism, especially as they relate to our own lives, and I give more of my story.

This is the follow up interview with Juliane, one of our panelists, about the aftermath of her talk about the temple and her history as a convert from Germany.

Juliane has written about her experience on her blog: Molly Mormon's Evil Twin. You can also read the full text of her talk there, as well as the letters she wrote to her Bishop and Stake President. In this interview, Juliane discusses her journey as a convert to the church, and how her view of the church changed after she was a member.

Juliane will be watching the comments to answer questions or discuss issues raised in her interview.

Episode 9: Speaking of the Temple

Right click here to download the mp3.

Billings, Montana Temple by Kendall Davenport
Back in April, Juliane, another of our panelists, was asked to give a talk in church about temples. She has mixed feelings about the temple and many unanswered questions, so she wasn't sure what she would say. The talk that she ended up giving was written out in full before she gave it. Her talk is brave and beautiful.

This podcast presents her talk along with some context about preparing the talk and  her feelings about being married in the temple.

Juliane will be watching the comments so she can answer questions or discuss issues that are brought up in her talk.

Here is the full text of her talk, as published on her blog.

There will be another podcast soon that discusses the aftermath of this talk and goes into Juliane's history as convert from Germany.

Episode 8: Eve as Balance to Christ

Right click here to download the mp3.

Yingana by Jan Morgan Wood

This episode is a piece of my own speculative theology concerning our Mother Eve. For me, balance with female and male really is part of how things are meant to be, and in this episode I discuss how Eve and Christ act as eternal balance in the grand plan, acting as gatekeepers.

I'll be watching the comments to answer questions or discuss issues raised in the podcast.

In this podcast I reference a poem by Donna Wilshire from her book Virgin Mother Crone as well as the article "Pregnant Embodiment" from Iris Marion Young's book Throwing Like a Girl and Other Essays. The full article is only available through subscription; however, you can read most of it between these two Google Book previews: here and here.

Episode 6: "Not Perfect" — Sara's Mother's Day Talk

Right click here to download the mp3.

One more special edition! This past weekend, Sara gave a talk for Mother's Day in her parents' ward. She reaches out to mothers in a universal way, giving understanding for why Mother's Day is so hard for so many.

Sara addresses complex issues with our own mothers, the over-emphasis on "perfect mothers," and our Heavenly Mother. She also speaks about the atonement.

Sara will be watching the comments to answer questions or discuss issues raised in her talk.

Episode 5: More Than Mothers

Relief Block Print by Stephen Alcorn

This is a special edition for Mother's Day. I wanted to address the unrealistic expectations we place on mothers, which can make Mother's Day a very lonely and sad day for many women. Also, I wanted to acknowledge our Divine Mothers: Mother Earth, Mother Eve, and our Mother in Heaven. Most of all, I hope that all mothers can remember than they are individuals, not only mothers.

I reference Dance of the Dissent Daughter as well as the blog With Your Mutual Approbation.

iTunes Capability Now Available!

UPDATE: Daughters of Mormonism is now available on iTunes.

Also, I've fixed the links so that if you right click on the "right click here" line for any of the podcasts, it will let you save the mp3 now (instead of the m3u).

Thanks for all the feedback. It has helped me fine tune and figure out how to make this work well. If you have further feedback about problems with the site, please put them in the comments so I can work on them.

Happy listening!                             .
